SPACE! The final frontier... actually, since I learnt that space isn't a perect vacuum, but close enough, I had a few moments of WTF before splitting it into 'space' and 'outer space.' "Outer space- the final frontier" doesn't sound as good. Anyway, things I have learnt from reading books:
1) the light from stars we see is history- which makes me appreciate that which is in our solar system more. i.e. the moon, for example, is in real-time, and the stars upon generations have wished are ancient, and therefore cannot necessarily carry our fanciful messages along in real-time. That is, if wishing upon stars were to work, and star-struck lovers were to wish to be united, they might only do so in spirit a few hundred or thousand or million years later, when the star got the message and passed it on to the object of our intent. *is amused*
2) The moon came about by being blasted from earth quite a while back (a) duh b) don't ask for numbers or dates, maths is a beautiful but sadly unfathomable thing to me). Thus, our connection with it, apart from the whole water-control aspect of it, is amazing because it is almost like humankind lamenting its loss and at the same time being amazed that we have such an amazing companion- that there is a solid, now tangible (though not to non-aero people) entity that we can go through life with, reminding us that yes, we are in space, and yes, that means we're floating (or on an orbit, whatever) above and around and below eternity. Cool beans.
Those two points were obviously not all I learnt, but those were what struck me last night. Obviously very, very basic, but there are things one cannot put into words (which is why I predict language will dissapear or become extinct for want of *true* communication) and only experience.
Anyway, soon off to Joburg of all places so I can bother Chibz about how light and sound travels through space if it is a near vacuum. Planets apparently hum (which is what got me started months ago on this whole sound business) and thus the universe, as a carrier of every thing, motion, law, whatever, must have some sort of celestial symphony and/or choir through the combination of all these hums and flickers and static and micro/radiowaves. This is what I'm after, not that I forsee it being possible, but yes.
Therefore:

Try meditating to that stuff, or even singing along. If you can, overtone sing. A while back I was overtone singing, and had this crazy 'out of body' experience whereby I felt that my whole oral cavity had turned into a shell, and the sound that was being omitted was a frequency. Except, once it turned into a shell I wasn't "me" anymore but rather energy transmitting this frequency as if from some other crazy dimension. On some wishfull thinking level I figure that if we tap into a specific frequency, or series or layering thereof, we might be able to transport our consciousness, whatever that may be, to another 'place.'
Who here believes time exists and why? Has anyone else had experiences like the above where sound and/or energy has loosened them from the bonds of flesh and the human mind?

Good grief. I was outside having a smoke and getting started on Bill Bryson's 'A Short History of Nearly Everything' (see if you can spot Sir Humphry Davy (read:ancestor)), because seriously, I have no concept of space, as much as I stare out into it. It always takes a few seconds for me to remind myself that yes, we are suspended in space, and yes, the sun is actually a star and big and burning bright. Hopefully I can get some answers as to how sound travels through space (because as my most scientifically minded friend reminded me, it is *space*), and whether dreams can cross over space, or even the energies we project. With billions of people and creatures having stared up at the moon, for example, and projected their feelings or gathered strength from it, surely it would be a bit like a cellphone if it does not exist in space. Telepathy with the universe? Anyway, sillly questions that need answering for me to better apply overtone singing and frequency into creating peace.
I've got a shift at the orphanage tomorrow, which won't be very pleasant knowing that the oldest boy (whom I have known now for 6 months) is to be adopted next week. Still, times change, faces change, and I am so incredibly happy that he finally gets the family he deserves (from the rumours it seems he will be going far, far away to colder climes).
Anyway, onto fic. I wrote this ages ago after re-reading the HP books and getting a sense of vast loneliness from Remus (of course, almost all JK's characters deserve couch-time, but Remus moreso in his own special way).

Hello!
Well, I'm dreading going down to my car and seeing it is truly broken or not. Considering it was serviced two weeks ago and a lot of things were replaced, such as the battery (for no reason), the axl business etc, I fail to see why last night the service light deigned to shine. Harumph.

So, some questions.
Now, since I know buggerall about being completely straight, I was wondering what you guys think about JK's writing in terms of her descriptions of characters via Harry. He's always harping on about how 'extremely handsome' Sirius or Cedric are, or how 'striking' Zacharias is, but as far as I remember she never does the women in HP justice. What I mean is that Harry thinks of Cho as 'pretty,' and I'm sure he said something similar regarding Ginny (though I haven't reread HBP and don't want to), but he never seems to go out of his way to say equally flattering things about the girls as he does the boys. Sirius, for example, is on many occasions described as handsome or whatever and the men in general get somewhat detailed physical descriptions that seem to go beyond the "short, pretty, nice hair" way of thinking that JK describes for the girls. Is it because JK herself is straight and is therefore not interested or unwilling to go into great detail about how her female characters look, or what? Does she just want to let everyone know how dreamy she finds certain male characters? I'm not too sure about this because the fact that she's writing from Harry's perspective would mean she would have to write whatever she feels he might think about others- if so, why no gushing about how beautiful or marvelous or whatever other female-version of 'handsome' there is? Perhaps it could be that Harry's somewhat sexually immature for most of the series, and would therefore not really notice or actively think about it? Then again in HBP all of a sudden he has this sudden wave of lust for women (or Ginny in particular) which seems to come out of nowhere (chest!monsters, really).
I'm just rambling. And clearly not cut out for this whole musing-outloud thing because it makes much more sense in my head than it ever will on LJ.
And also, doesn't help that Harry (at least to me) is either bi or incredibly gay.
ETA: I shall reply to the comments tomorrow when I can get back onto LJ. For now, PLAY NICE :D

Wrah! Late as usual but not because of non-love, here (finally) is my illustration for jezzabe's Apples and Daisy Chains (R) fic for the Illustrated FiccishWish Fulfillment Swap. Her fic utterly gorgeous and if I had my art materials in italy I would make some sort of mural for it because flower-chains are just the most awesome things ever.
Anyway, jezzabe, sorry that it doesn't feature Cho but she came out sort of porno (in a bad sense) so I had to cut her out. I hope you like it nonetheless.

I just came back from driving- rah! I did my first bit of parking today, and did splendidly apparently. I spent the night again over at my aunt's however, and we decided to take my driving. BIG mistake! The car I'm learning on is a 1100 or something and mine is apparently a 1600 so when you put your foot SLIGHTLY on the damn accelerator it goes. Thus I stalled my car at least 10 times to the howlings and window-clutching-"help!" of my aunt. hmph. Now she's going to tell my dad that I suck meanwhile it's my CAR that sucks IMO. I wanted a shitty old car and now what- I can't even drive my car even if it is pretty. ahfjadhajd.
Also, I'm sick. What the hell. Now I have to smoke menthols the whole time and want to gag. Camels my babies! Mommy'll be back soon to suck the life out of you!
